An Ethnographic Study of Conflict in Software Engineering Teams
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes an ethnographic study of conflict in software engineering teams. The aim of the study was to uncover whether certain forms of conflict can be either constructive or destructive. Prior research has uncovered three distinct forms of conflict: task, relationship, and process. This trichotomy was used to measure conflict in this study. Additionally, each conflict episode was recorded to identify if certain issues were more likely to result in either constructive or destructive conflict. The initial findings of this research indicate that some forms of conflict are destructive regardless of the context they occur in. It was also found that the levels of skill and experience of team members and the methodology being adhered to can also play a role.

Report: A Capstone Project involving a Hundred Students, for an Industrial Partner
The recently approved Cal Poly software engineering major concludes with a significant capstone project. During a yearlong course sequence, students specify, design, construct and deploy a large software project for an industrial partner. This report summarizes the capstone sequence project in the current academic year; sixteen student teams constructed an automated testing system for an indu...
متن کاملInvestigating Cultural Differences in Virtual Software Teams
Software development projects increasingly extend over the boundaries set by a single company, or country. As the available communication media becomes more sophisticated, and more advanced technology costs less, the trends in software development move towards a more “virtual” nature. This evolutionary process allows individuals or even teams from different locations and cultures, with differen...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Effects of Aspect Properties on Model Composition Effort: A Replicated Study
Nowadays, model composition plays a central role on software engineering activities. For example, reconciling design models developed in parallel by different software development teams. It can be defined as a set of activities that should be performed over two input models, MA and MB, to produce an output composed model, MCM. Usually, the problem is that the MCM does not correspond to the outp...

متن کاملThe Academic Bookshelf Global and Virtual Teamwork
Although globalization has been a political and economic concern for centuries (see Distributed Work, reviewed below) its impact on the engineering education community has become particularly salient since the publication of the Engineer of 2020 (NAE, 2003), Educating the Engineer of 2020 (NAE, 2005) and The World is Flat (Friedman, 2005). These and subsequent publications have emphasized the c...
